Enable your teams for scale - The Data Platform teams are responsible for building, operating, and tuning a data platform that allows users to discover and query across the breadth of our data at Recursion, which includes a chemistry library of billions compounds, More than 10 Petabytes (PBs) of cellular microscopy images taken in millions of different experimental contexts involving to support Recursion’s drug discovery. In this role, you will work closely with the team to understand the needs of the business and build clear solutions.
Act as a mentor, coach, and sponsor - You will share your technical, leadership and managerial skills and experiences, delivering impact, learning, and growth across teams at Recursion. We believe that the best work comes from working across organizational boundaries and you will have opportunities to partner with groups across the business.
Create a culture of platforms - You will help drive the vision and adoption of platforms broadly at Recursion, helping sell teams and leaders on how to accelerate work using the platforms we have and understanding their needs to inform the platforms we will build.

The Team You'll Join

Recursion has built a unique dataset (over 1 million unique biological perturbations profiled in a high-dimensional biological assay) and a unique approach to phenotypic drug discovery using our inference-based Recursion Map to predict tens of billions of relationships between disease models and therapeutic candidates. You will lead a team of software and data engineers working to standardize and automate the process of accessing and analyzing data across Recursion, from cutting edge ML to process automation, all data flows to the lake.

You will also have a peer group of directors, associate directors and engineering managers that work together on the craft of engineering leadership. We all work better when we have the support of those around us and are learning together to solve problems across our teams.

You will report to the Senior Director of Engineering.

This position is based at our headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah OR our offices in Toronto, Ontario.

The Experience You'll Need

Significant experience as a data engineer and excitement for deeply engaging in technical discussions and decisions your team is making to drive us forward.
Experience leading technical teams using both technical and interpersonal skills to achieve results.
A people-first mindset. We deliver in a way that prioritizes supporting our coworkers in their growth and experience.
Demonstrate past record of learning from and teaching peers in areas of performance, scalability, and system architecture.
Experience working across a business on highly collaborative projects.
Excitement to learn parts of our tech stack that you might not already know and jump in and get your hands on code when needed. Our current tech stack includes: Python, dbt, Airflow, Big Query, Postgres, GCP Buckets. Our cloud services are provided by Google Cloud Platform.
